IMD Issues Yellow Warning for Several Odisha Districts; Weather to Remain Unsettled Over the Weekend

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for several districts in Odisha, warning of heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds on June 1. As per the IMD forecast, the weather across various parts of the state is expected to remain unsettled over the next 24 hours, with some areas likely to experience significant downpours and strong winds.

Heavy Rain and Thunderstorm Likely in Many Districts

On Saturday, June 1, the IMD predicts light to moderate rainfall or thundershowers in many parts of the state. Districts such as Nabarangpur, Koraput, Rayagada, Malkangiri, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhargarh, and Sundargarh are likely to witness thunderstorms with lightning, heavy rainfall, and gusty surface winds reaching 40 to 50 kmph in one or two locations.

In addition, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Kendrapada, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Bolangir, Kalahandi, and Kandhamal may experience thunderstorms with lightning and winds between 30 to 40 kmph.

Weather Forecast for June 2

Looking ahead to June 2, light rain or thunderstorms are expected at isolated places in Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Nuapada, Bolangir, and Sonepur. The rest of Odisha is likely to remain dry.

Temperature Outlook

The IMD has stated that no major change in day temperatures is expected for the next 24 hours. However, a gradual rise of 2 to 4 degrees Celsius is likely over the next five to six days.

Citizens Advised to Stay Cautious

Residents are urged to take necessary precautions, especially in areas under the yellow alert. The public is advised to avoid open areas during thunderstorms, stay indoors during lightning activity, and secure loose objects due to gusty winds.
