KTM Increases Prices of Popular 390 Range Motorcycles
KTM has increased the prices of its popular 390 range bikes in India, making them significantly more expensive for buyers. The price hike affects models like the KTM 390 Duke and KTM 390 Adventure X, with increases of up to ₹40,000.
This move comes as a result of changes in the Goods and Services Tax (GST) structure implemented last year.
Why Have KTM Bike Prices Increased?
The primary reason behind the price hike is the revised GST rates introduced in September last year.
Under the new tax structure:
- Motorcycles up to 350cc are taxed at 18% GST
- Motorcycles above 350cc now attract 40% tax (28% GST + 12% cess)
Since KTM’s 390 range falls in the above-350cc category, the increased tax burden has directly impacted pricing.
New Price of KTM 390 Adventure X
The price of the KTM 390 Adventure X has been revised:
- Old price: ₹3.26 lakh (ex-showroom)
- New price: ₹3.43 lakh (ex-showroom)
- Price increase: ₹17,000
It is worth noting that the bike was originally launched at ₹2.91 lakh. With multiple revisions and added features, the cost has steadily increased. In most cities, the on-road price now reaches करीब ₹4 lakh, making it a premium offering in its segment.
KTM 390 Duke Gets Major Price Hike
The KTM 390 Duke has seen a sharper increase:
- Old price: ₹2.99 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi)
- New price: ₹3.39 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi)
- Price increase: ₹40,000
This substantial jump widens the gap between the 250 Duke and 390 Duke to around ₹1.22 lakh, which may influence buyer decisions in this segment.
Impact on Buyers and Market Competition
The price hike may impact KTM’s competitiveness, especially as buyers in India are highly price-sensitive. With rising costs, some customers may look at alternatives in the mid-capacity motorcycle segment.
At the same time, KTM continues to offer premium features, performance, and brand value, which may still attract enthusiasts.
Possibility of New 350cc KTM Models
To adapt to the new tax structure, KTM’s partner Bajaj Auto is reportedly working on new 350cc KTM motorcycles.
This strategy could help:
- Keep prices more competitive under the 18% GST bracket
- Expand KTM’s reach in the mid-range segment
- Compete with newly launched 350cc bikes from brands like Triumph Motorcycles
Such models could strike a balance between performance and affordability.
Final Thoughts
The recent price hike of KTM’s 390 range reflects how tax policy changes can directly impact vehicle pricing in India. While the KTM 390 Duke and Adventure X continue to offer strong performance and features, the increased cost may make buyers reconsider their options.
With potential new 350cc models in development, KTM could soon introduce more affordable alternatives to maintain its position in the competitive Indian motorcycle market.
