Man Who Threatened Delhi CM Rekha Gupta Arrested in Ghaziabad: Here’s Why He Made the Call

Delhi CM Rekha Gupta received a death threat, leading to tightened security. The accused has been arrested in Ghaziabad. Know why he made the threat and what the investigation has revealed so far.

Delhi CM Rekha Gupta Threat Case: Accused Caught from Ghaziabad

In a major development, Delhi Police has arrested the man who issued a death threat to Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta. The accused, who was found to be under the influence of alcohol at the time of the call, was apprehended by the Special Staff of North West District Police from Ghaziabad.

Threat Call Details

The threat was made to the Police Control Room (PCR) at around 11 pm on Thursday night. Following the threat, Rekha Gupta’s security was immediately beefed up. After making the call, the accused switched off his phone, which remained off until he was traced.

The Ghaziabad Police’s Inter-State Coordination Cell collaborated with the Delhi Police and shared key information, which led to the arrest. The phone number and SIM used for the threat were traced with the help of telecom service providers.

Who Is the Accused?

During interrogation, the accused confessed that he made the threat call under the influence of alcohol. He reportedly said he was upset and felt ignored by the police, which led him to make the extreme decision.

Ongoing Investigation

Police officials have confirmed that the investigation is still ongoing, and all aspects of the case are being examined. The man is currently under custody and being further interrogated.

Authorities are also checking if there are any other motives or connections behind the threat. His call history and previous complaints are being reviewed as part of the process.

Past Security Incidents Involving Delhi CMs

This isn’t the first time a Delhi Chief Minister has faced a threat or attack. In 2019, former CM Arvind Kejriwal was slapped by an auto driver during a public event, reportedly over unfulfilled election promises. In 2016, a woman threw ink at Kejriwal during a government function at Chhatrasal Stadium.

Even recently, during the 2025 Assembly election campaigns, Kejriwal was targeted again when an unidentified person threw liquid at him during a padyatra in Savitri Nagar, Malviya Nagar.

Conclusion: Heightened Security and Vigilance Needed

The arrest of the man who threatened Rekha Gupta has brought temporary relief, but the case highlights the need for increased vigilance and better public grievance redressal systems. Authorities are urging citizens to use proper channels for complaints rather than resorting to dangerous or unlawful actions.
