Tragic Incident Between Diva and Mumbra Stations Highlights Overcrowding Issues in Mumbai Locals
Thane, Maharashtra – A tragic accident occurred on Monday morning on the Mumbai suburban railway network, where five people lost their lives after falling from a crowded local train between Diva and Mumbra stations in Thane district. The incident has raised serious concerns about passenger safety and overcrowding on Mumbai’s lifeline – the local trains.
Overcrowding Blamed for the Accident
According to initial reports, the train was heavily overcrowded, and many passengers were hanging by the doors due to lack of space inside the compartments. As the train sped between Diva and Mumbra, at least 10 to 12 passengers fell, leading to chaos and panic on board and at the stations.
Eyewitnesses said that the overcrowding was extreme, especially during peak hours, and several commuters were barely able to maintain their balance while standing at the edge.
Emergency Response and Investigation
Upon receiving information about the accident, teams from the Government Railway Police (GRP), Railway Protection Force (RPF), and local police rushed to the scene. The injured were immediately shifted to nearby hospitals, while investigations have been initiated to determine the exact cause and prevent such tragedies in the future.
Officials confirmed that five people were declared dead, while others are undergoing treatment. The identities of the victims are yet to be disclosed.
Railway Authorities Under Pressure
This accident has once again brought the focus on safety concerns surrounding the Mumbai local train system, which caters to over 7 million commuters daily. Passenger associations and local residents have demanded that the authorities increase the frequency of trains and improve crowd management, especially during rush hours.
