Newlywed Couple from Pratapgarh Missing in Sikkim for 11 Days After Tragic Road Accident

Kaushalendra and Ankita went missing after their tempo traveller plunged into a 1000-feet gorge during heavy rains in North Sikkim

Pratapgarh, Uttar Pradesh – June 10:
A tragic incident has left a family in Pratapgarh devastated as their newlywed son and daughter-in-law have been missing in Sikkim for the past 11 days. Kaushalendra and Ankita, who tied the knot on May 5, had gone to Sikkim for their honeymoon on May 24. However, disaster struck on the night of May 29 when the tempo traveller they were in fell into a 1000-feet deep gorge during heavy rainfall in North Sikkim.

8 Tourists Missing, Including Newlyweds

The vehicle carrying 11 passengers skidded off the road and plunged into a gorge, eventually sinking into a river. One person was confirmed dead, two were injured, and eight tourists, including the Pratapgarh couple, have gone missing. Since then, there has been no trace of the vehicle or the missing individuals.

Ongoing Rescue Operations Yield No Results

Rescue teams, including the NDRF and local authorities, are carrying out extensive search operations in the area. Despite relentless efforts, no progress has been made in locating the missing travellers or the tempo traveller itself.

Family in Deep Distress, Pleads for Help

The situation has left the families in deep sorrow. Kaushalendra’s father, Sher Bahadur, had rushed to Sikkim with a relative in a desperate attempt to search for the couple. However, after spending 11 days with no results, he is now returning home empty-handed. Two other relatives, Dinesh and Pradeep, had also accompanied the search but returned on June 8.

There is growing panic and emotional turmoil among family members, who are now urging the Chief Minister and Governor of Sikkim to intensify the search operations.

Call for Government Intervention

With each passing day, hope is dwindling. The families are pleading for immediate and stronger action from the authorities to trace their loved ones. They demand advanced rescue support and better coordination to bring clarity on the whereabouts of the missing tourists.

This incident, coming soon after another similar case in Meghalaya, raises concerns about tourist safety in remote regions during the monsoon season. Families are left with unanswered questions, and the community is rallying in support for their return.
