Scorching Heat in Delhi-NCR: When Will Relief Arrive? IMD’s Latest Weather Update

Delhi Heatwave Update: Temperature to Gradually Drop After June 14, No Rain Expected Yet

The intense heatwave across Delhi and the rest of North India has become unbearable, with soaring temperatures leaving residents yearning for some relief. As we enter the second week of June, many are asking: When will the heat subside? When will it rain? The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has recently released an update that sheds light on the ongoing heat conditions and what people can expect in the coming days.

Relief from Heat: IMD’s Forecast for Delhi and North India

The IMD has stated that the brutal heat will persist for a few more days in Delhi-NCR and surrounding areas. The scorching temperatures, which have already reached 44°C in many parts of the capital, will not see any significant change over the next three days. This means that the heatwave will continue to affect regions like Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan, and Western Uttar Pradesh for the time being.

However, there is some good news on the horizon. Starting June 14, temperatures in these regions will gradually decrease by 2-4°C. Although this may not bring an immediate end to the heat, it will offer some relief from the extreme conditions.

Heatwave Continues Across North and Central India

As per the IMD, there are currently heatwave conditions in several parts of North and Central India, including Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and South UP. While the heat will remain intense for the next few days, the gradual temperature drop starting from June 14 is expected to bring a little respite.

In the meantime, the rest of India is also facing similarly hot conditions. Central India will experience a stable temperature over the next three days, with a slight reduction possible afterward. Eastern India, including Delhi, will see a small dip of 2-3°C in the coming days. There are no major changes expected in South India or the Northeast for the foreseeable future.

Temperature Soars: Ganganagar Hits 48°C

The hottest temperature recorded in the plains of India recently was in Ganganagar, Rajasthan, where the mercury reached a staggering 48°C. In Delhi, temperatures have also crossed 44°C in many areas, exacerbating the ongoing heatwave. Hot winds and scorching sun have made outdoor activities unbearable, and the general public is facing great difficulty in coping with the extreme weather.

No Rain in Sight: IMD’s Update on Pre-Monsoon Showers

Despite the sweltering conditions, the IMD has clarified that there are no signs of monsoon rains or even pre-monsoon showers in Delhi and the surrounding regions just yet. While some areas may experience dust storms or light drizzle, these weather events will not provide substantial relief from the heat. The long wait for significant rainfall continues.

In the absence of monsoon rains, the intense heat is expected to persist, especially in the plains. The IMD has also emphasized that the rain will likely be delayed, meaning that residents of Delhi-NCR and nearby areas will have to endure the heat a little longer.

Government’s Advisory: Staying Safe in the Heat

In light of the ongoing heatwave, the Union Health Ministry has issued a detailed advisory urging the public to take precautions against heat-related illnesses. The key advice includes:

  • Avoid Outdoor Activities: The advisory strongly recommends staying indoors during the afternoon hours, particularly between 12 PM and 4 PM when the sun is at its peak.

  • Stay Hydrated: It is crucial to drink plenty of water and other fluids to avoid dehydration.

  • Cover Up: If you need to go outside, make sure to cover your head and body with appropriate clothing to protect yourself from the sun’s harmful rays.

  • Care for Vulnerable Groups: Special attention should be paid to children, the elderly, and those with pre-existing health conditions. They are at higher risk of heatstroke and dehydration.

Conclusion: The Wait for Rain Continues

As Delhi and neighboring areas continue to endure the intense heat, the IMD’s forecast offers some hope of a slight drop in temperature after June 14. While relief is expected, it won’t be immediate, and the possibility of rain remains low for now. The public is advised to take the necessary precautions to stay cool and hydrated, particularly during the hottest parts of the day.

Until the much-anticipated rains arrive, the residents of Delhi-NCR must brace for a few more days of high temperatures, with the heatwave showing no sign of easing in the immediate future.
