Delhi-NCR Faces Intense Heatwave; IMD Issues Alerts
Delhi and its neighboring regions are experiencing a severe heatwave, with temperatures soaring above 45°C. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for the next two days, warning residents of dangerous heat conditions. The maximum temperature in Delhi reached 45.5°C, with a “feels-like” temperature of 49°C due to high humidity levels .
IMD Forecasts Continued Heatwave
The IMD predicts that heatwave conditions will persist across northwest India, including Delhi, Haryana, and parts of Uttar Pradesh, until at least June 12. The department has issued a yellow alert for June 12 and 13, indicating that temperatures may remain above 45°C in isolated areas .
Monsoon Relief Expected by June 13
Relief from the scorching heat is anticipated by mid-week. The IMD forecasts light to moderate rain, thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds (40-50 km/h) in parts of North India, including Delhi. These pre-monsoon showers are expected to commence around June 12, bringing much-needed respite from the ongoing heatwave .
