UPSC CSE Prelims Result 2025 Declared: Check Roll Numbers, Vacancies & Mains Exam Update

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has officially declared the Civil Services Preliminary Examination 2025 results. Candidates who appeared for the highly competitive exam on May 25, 2025, can now check their results through the official UPSC portals: upsc.gov.in and upsconline.nic.in.

This year saw a massive turnout, with over 10 lakh aspirants appearing for the exam nationwide, vying for just 979 vacancies across prestigious services like IAS, IPS, IFS, and IRS.

14,161 Candidates Clear UPSC Prelims 2025

The UPSC has released the list of qualified candidates in PDF format, containing roll numbers of those who made it through the first hurdle. A total of 14,161 aspirants have been shortlisted for the UPSC Mains Examination 2025, aligning with the Commission’s usual practice of calling 12 to 14 times the number of vacancies for the next round.

The result PDF does not include individual scores or cut-off marks at this stage. Those details will be made public only after the final result of the Civil Services Examination is declared.

How to Check UPSC Prelims Result 2025

To download your result:

  1. Visit upsc.gov.in

  2. Click on the “UPSC Civil Services Prelims Result 2025” link under the “What’s New” section

  3. Download the PDF and search for your roll number

Exam Overview

The preliminary exam was held in two sessions on May 25. It included:

  • General Studies Paper I

  • General Studies Paper II (CSAT)

Each paper was of 200 marks and 2-hour duration. It’s crucial to note that the Prelims is a qualifying stage only, meaning the scores here do not count toward the final merit list.

Marking Scheme Reminder: For each incorrect answer, one-third of the marks assigned to that question is deducted.

What’s Next: UPSC Mains 2025

Candidates who cleared the Prelims will now prepare for the UPSC Mains Exam, scheduled later this year. The Mains exam is descriptive and includes nine papers, including Essay, GS, and Optional subjects. Only those who qualify in the Mains will be summoned for the Personality Test (Interview) round.
