New Delhi – When we think of popular mid-size SUVs, names like Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, and Maruti Grand Vitara often come to mind. But there’s a new star making waves in the segment — and it’s surprisingly affordable! The MG Astor, in its 2025 avatar, is currently India’s only mid-size SUV to offer both a panoramic sunroof and a large 10-inch infotainment display — all under ₹12.5 lakh (ex-showroom).
A Unique Offering in Its Class
MG Motor India, now operating as JSW MG Motor India, has officially declared that the MY2025 Astor ‘Blockbuster SUV’ is the only 1.5-litre mid-size SUV in India with such premium features at this price point. Starting from just ₹11.29 lakh (ex-showroom), the Astor gives buyers more value than its rivals in terms of tech and features.
The panoramic sunroof is available from the ‘Shine’ trim, which is priced at ₹12.47 lakh (ex-showroom), making it the most budget-friendly SUV with this feature in its segment.
Not Just a Sunroof – Loaded With Features
The MG Astor isn’t just about sunroofs and big screens. It’s loaded with over 50 safety features, 14 advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), and more than 80 connected features. These include:
-
6-way power adjustable driver’s seat
-
Blind spot detection
-
360-degree surround view camera
-
Tyre pressure monitoring system
-
Lane change assist
-
Electric parking brake with auto hold
-
Personalised AI assistant
-
7-inch fully digital instrument cluster
-
Automatic headlamps and front fog lamps with cornering assist
-
LED taillamps
-
17-inch dual-tone alloy wheels
For tech-savvy buyers and safety-conscious families, the Astor packs a punch in terms of value.
Infotainment & Connectivity
Across all variants, the Astor offers a 10-inch infotainment display — a size you rarely see in this price range. The system supports advanced connectivity, voice commands, and seamless smartphone integration.
Additionally, the ‘Sharp Pro’ variant also becomes India’s only automatic 1.5L SUV under ₹15 lakh to offer wireless charging, another feature typically seen in more expensive models.
Engine & Transmission Options
Under the hood, the MG Astor offers two engine options:
-
1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine
-
Power: 110 hp
-
Torque: 144 Nm
-
Gearbox: 5-speed manual / 8-speed CVT
-
-
1.3-litre turbo-petrol engine
-
Power: 140 hp
-
Torque: 220 Nm
-
Gearbox: 6-speed automatic (torque converter)
-
These options give buyers a choice between fuel efficiency and performance, depending on their driving needs.
Why Isn’t It Selling Well?
Despite all these features, the MG Astor has struggled to gain strong sales. This could be due to stiff competition from better-known rivals like the Creta and Seltos, which enjoy stronger brand loyalty and wider dealer networks. However, with its 2025 update and unbeatable value-for-money proposition, the Astor is expected to attract more attention, especially from tech-loving younger buyers.
