The iconic monkey bike style is making a comeback in India after nearly four decades. Domestic go-kart manufacturer KNK Karts has launched a new petrol-powered mini bike called the KNK Mini Bike, priced at around ₹50,000.
Bookings for the mini bike have already started, and the company expects the first batch of deliveries to begin in June 2026. The launch has created excitement among bike enthusiasts who remember the popularity of mini bikes during the 1970s and 1980s.
The Return of the Classic Monkey Bike
With the launch of the KNK Mini Bike, memories of the famous monkey bikes from the past have resurfaced. In the 1970s, a small motorcycle called the Rajdoot GTS became extremely popular in India.
The bike gained nationwide attention after appearing in the Bollywood movie Bobby, where actor Rishi Kapoor was seen riding it. Because of this, the bike was often nicknamed the “Bobby Bike.”
The Rajdoot GTS gave a unique identity to the mini bike segment in India, but its production eventually stopped. Now, nearly 40 years later, the concept of a compact and fun mini bike has returned with a modern touch.
Designed and Manufactured in India
The KNK Mini Bike has been completely designed, developed, and manufactured in India. It is compact, lightweight, and intended mainly for recreational riding rather than everyday commuting.
Engine and Performance
The mini bike is powered by an 80cc petrol engine that produces around 4 horsepower. While this power output is lower than regular commuter motorcycles such as Hero CD Deluxe, the bike weighs only about 40 kilograms, which helps it deliver quick acceleration.
Because of its light weight, the engine can move the bike easily, making it fun to ride on private tracks or open spaces.
Twist-and-Go Automatic System
One of the interesting features of the KNK Mini Bike is its twist-and-go system. The bike does not require manual gear shifting like traditional motorcycles.
Instead, it uses:
-
Centrifugal clutch
-
Chain drive system
This means riders do not need to operate a clutch lever or change gears using their foot. All they need to do is twist the accelerator, and the bike moves forward—similar to how an automatic scooter works.
This feature makes the mini bike easy to ride, even for beginners with little riding experience.
Built for Off-Road Fun, Not Public Roads
It is important to note that the KNK Mini Bike is not designed for public roads. The bike cannot be registered with the Regional Transport Office (RTO) and therefore cannot be used on highways or city roads.
Instead, it has been specially designed for karting and recreational riding. It can be used in locations such as:
-
Private properties
-
Farmhouses
-
Off-road tracks
-
Closed racing circuits
This makes it more of a fun recreational vehicle rather than a daily commuting bike.
Off-Road Design and Features
The KNK Mini Bike features a rugged design built for off-road use. Some of its key features include:
-
Tubular chassis for strong structural support
-
Single-side trailing link suspension at the front
-
Monoshock suspension at the rear
-
Large block-pattern off-road tires for better grip
For braking, the bike uses disc brakes on both wheels. These are cable-operated mechanical disc brakes, which are similar to those used in high-end bicycles.
Another interesting feature is the option to customize the final drive ratio directly from the factory. This allows riders to tune the bike either for faster acceleration or for higher top speed, depending on their preference.
A Fun Mini Bike for Enthusiasts
Despite its compact size, the KNK Mini Bike has a bold and aggressive design that attracts attention. Its lightweight build, simple riding system, and off-road capability make it an appealing option for enthusiasts who want a fun riding experience.
With a starting price of around ₹50,000, the mini bike offers a nostalgic throwback to the classic monkey bikes while adding modern engineering and customization options.
For riders who love unique machines and recreational riding, this mini rocket could become a popular choice in the niche mini bike segment.
