Introduction
India’s electric vehicle (EV) market is rapidly evolving, and the biggest shift is now coming from non-metro cities. Once dominated by metropolitan areas, EV adoption is now spreading rapidly to smaller towns. A strong example of this trend is the MG Windsor EV, which is witnessing massive demand beyond big cities.
70% Sales from Non-Metro Cities
According to JSW MG Motor India, nearly 70% of the total sales of the MG Windsor EV come from non-metro cities. Major metro cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, and Chennai contribute only about 30%.
Since its launch in October 2024, the company has sold around 65,000 units of this model. These figures clearly indicate that smaller cities are now playing a major role in shaping India’s EV market.
Why Small Cities Are Driving EV Growth
Vinay Raina explained that earlier EV adoption was limited to big cities due to low awareness and lack of suitable products. However, the launch of MG Windsor changed the situation.
He stated that the car arrived at the right time with the right features—affordable pricing, modern design, and practicality—which attracted buyers from smaller towns. These customers are now embracing eco-friendly mobility options more than ever before.
The company believes non-metro cities will become the biggest growth centers for EVs in the coming years.
Expanding Network Across India
To support this rising demand, MG Motor has expanded its presence significantly. Currently, the company operates 541 sales and service outlets across India, with only 51 located in metro cities and the rest spread across smaller towns.
In addition to Windsor, the company also offers other EV models like the MG Comet EV and MG ZS EV. Between October 2024 and February 2026, MG Motor has recorded over 1 lakh EV sales in India.
In 2025 alone, the company sold 70,554 units, achieving a 19% year-on-year growth. It is now planning to launch four new models, including a plug-in hybrid SUV, to strengthen its position in the market.
MG Windsor EV Price and Subscription Model
The MG Windsor EV is priced between ₹14 lakh and ₹18.5 lakh (ex-showroom). However, it also offers an innovative Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) model, starting at ₹9.99 lakh.
Under this model, customers do not need to purchase the battery upfront. Instead, they pay a monthly usage fee of approximately ₹3.5 to ₹3.9 per kilometer. This makes EV ownership more affordable and accessible, especially for buyers in smaller cities.
Design, Features, and Comfort
The MG Windsor EV stands out with its modern and stylish design. It includes features like connected lighting, 18-inch alloy wheels, and flush door handles, giving it a strong road presence.

This makes it suitable for both daily commuting and long-distance travel, meeting the needs of a wide range of users.
