An important update has come for vehicle owners traveling on highways across the country. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has announced a price hike for the FASTag Annual Pass, effective from April 1, 2026. The new cost will be slightly higher than before. Here’s everything you need to know about this change.
New Price for FASTag Annual Pass
Starting from April 1, the price of the FASTag Annual Pass for private vehicles has been increased to ₹3,075. Previously, it was ₹3,000. This pass applies to non-commercial vehicles like private cars, jeeps, and vans.
What is the FASTag Annual Pass?
The FASTag Annual Pass is a special scheme launched on Independence Day last year. The primary goal of this pass is to reduce the hassle of paying tolls repeatedly on highways and to promote digital toll collection.
If your vehicle has a valid FASTag, you can take advantage of this pass. Once activated, the pass remains valid for one year or a maximum of 200 trips (whichever comes first).
Increasing Number of FASTag Annual Pass Users
According to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) data, the usage of this scheme is growing rapidly. Currently, over 5 million vehicle owners across the country are using the FASTag Annual Pass. Interestingly, around 28% of the toll payments on national highways are now made through this annual pass. This clearly indicates that the scheme is becoming quite popular among people who travel regularly on highways.
Introduction of the FASTag System in India
The FASTag system was introduced in India in 2016, and it has now become the primary method for toll payments. According to government data, around 11.86 crore FASTags have been issued so far, and nearly 5.9 crore of them are currently active, being used for electronic toll payments at toll plazas across the country. Currently, more than 98% of the toll earnings on national highways come through FASTag payments.
How to Get or Renew the FASTag Annual Pass?
If you travel regularly on highways and haven’t yet purchased the FASTag Annual Pass, you can obtain it from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways official website, or the Rajmarg Yatra mobile app.
If you already have the FASTag Annual Pass, you can also renew it using these methods.
To do so, you need to log in to your FASTag account. After that, you will need to enter the vehicle registration number and mobile number. You can then make the payment through UPI, debit card, credit card, or net banking. Once the payment is completed, the pass gets linked to your FASTag and usually activates within 24 hours. After that, you can use the pass for one year or 200 toll crossings, whichever comes first.
Conclusion
The FASTag Annual Pass offers a convenient way to simplify toll payments for vehicle owners traveling on highways. While the new price will require vehicle owners to pay a little more, the benefits of the pass make it worthwhile. If you travel regularly on highways, now is the time to get or renew your FASTag Annual Pass and make your travels more convenient.
