Global ChatGPT Users Face Errors and Disruptions for Over 10 Hours!

Global ChatGPT Outage Leaves Users Frustrated: Services Disrupted for Over 10 Hours

On June 10, 2025, ChatGPT users from various parts of the world reported sudden disruptions while trying to access the popular AI chatbot. Several users faced error messages, while others complained of the chatbot not responding at all — both on the web version and the mobile app.

According to outage tracking platform Down Detector, more than 1,000 complaints were recorded in the UK alone, with nearly 500 reports in the US. The issue started surfacing around 12 PM IST and peaked at around 3:15 PM IST.

Common Error Messages Baffle Users

Many users saw messages such as:
“A network error occurred. Please check your connection and try again. If this issue persists, please contact us through our help center at help.openai.com.”

Some users also received the vague message:
“Hmm.. something seems to have gone wrong.”

These unusual messages created confusion, leading people to believe that their personal internet connections were faulty.

Social Media Erupts with Reactions

Social media platforms, especially X (formerly Twitter), saw users sharing their experiences and frustrations.

One post read: “ChatGPT, my work buddy, is down again!” while another user joked: “Apparently ChatGPT is down globally. I thought my Wi-Fi gave up on me!”

This quick rise in posts made many others realize that the problem was widespread and not just a personal technical issue.

Details of the Outage

As per Down Detector’s data, around 88% of reports were about the ChatGPT web app malfunctioning. Only 8% faced issues with the mobile app, and 3% had trouble with the API services.

OpenAI’s official status page also confirmed the disruption, stating:
“Some users are experiencing elevated error rates and latency across the listed services. We are continuing to investigate this issue.”

It was later revealed that the outage affected OpenAI’s other products as well, such as the popular AI image generator, Sora, and APIs. Both free and paid tiers of ChatGPT services were hit.

Users globally — from North America, Europe, Australia to India — reported the problem as the issue spread across time zones.

Service Resumed After Over 10 Hours

By the evening, OpenAI managed to restore services after the platform remained down for more than 10 hours. However, minor errors and slow responses were still being reported by some users.

Despite the length and severity of the outage, OpenAI has not provided any detailed explanation for what caused this disruption. This has raised concerns among millions of users who heavily rely on ChatGPT for daily tasks, work, studies, and entertainment.
